I was born in the early 1990s and I have lived in the Clayton Community for my entire life. I have been surrounded by my family since i was born. They are the support system I lean to when I have no one else that understands. God has been a prominent goal in my life too. Without Him I would not be able to face the struggles in my life. My struggles within myself and with others have been hard for me. With God on my side I have been able to face them and still out on top and more blessed than I was before. I have cerbral palsy on my left side. Botox and surgeries have helped me adapt to everyday life so it can be easier for me. I have a son Benjamin who was born last October. He was a surprise to me and my family. He is wonderfully healthy and growing like a weed.
I want to be a teacher because I feel that the kids of the next generation need positive guidance to be strong people in the society they are living in. I've always wanted to be a teacher. I love to help at my church's Vacation Bible School. Seeing all the kids learning and growing within that week brings a peace only the Good Lord can bring. It tells me that I chose the right profession. To see my students grow each day, week, and month makes me know that I have done something right in their lives. I know it's not going to be easy but I do know that I can make a difference in their lives. A difference could be as little as being their favorite teacher in Elementary School to being a person that changes their life forever. Each student has their own history and personality they bring to the classroom and that matters to me. What happens to students outside the classroom effect them in the classroom and visa versa.
I want to be able to provide a safe environment for my students. An environment to which my students can tell me what is bothering them so I can help them with my problems. My students will be surrounded with a truthful environment so they knows what is going on with me and I know what is going on with them. They will be like my own child in the way i treat them because i believe that's how I should care for my students. They don't want to be yelled at or treated like a 5 year old when they are in fifth grade. They want to be trusted and treated like adults. They want to be held accountable for what they have to do. Some of the students want to be held accountable anyways. I feel that I could make a positive difference in their lives to where they do turn to like school and see it as a fun challenge.
I also want to be able to provide a challenging environment for my students. The students seem to get bored with the same instruction everyday. I plan to change it up so they use most of their brains instead of the "sit there and stare at the board" part. The students will use their bodies and their minds at the same time to help them get the information into their minds and stick.
All in all, what has happened and what I have learned in my life has helped me become the person and teacher I am today. I can only grow upward from here. The bottom line is that their lives matter no matter what part of their life it is. I plan to make that noticed. I hope I do a good job at it. :)
