Artifact Title: Heart Play
PSOE Proficiency Addressed: 4.0 The canidate displays professional commitment to the teaching philosophy of differentiated instruction to support students' diverse learning needs to maximize learning.
Artifact Description:
The "Heart Play" is a play that would describe the effects of healthy eating and horrible eating. It would start out as a person eating badly and showing the effects it has on the heart and the body. After the play shows what effects bad eating does then it will go into the part where exercise and healthy eating can do for your body.
This play would be better for upper elementary (3-5) to be able to grasp the full content. This play would use most of the students from those grades. It would be an event that students would invite the community to. It would show that they understand the health and fitness they need to be able to stay alive and thriving.
Artifact Link to PSOE Proficiency:
This artifact helps link me to the PSOE proficiency because it is a very diverse way of teaching students. This would get students to move, read, and speak. They are learning spatial, kinesthesis, linguistic, and intrapersonal areas of their learning. All of these tie into the 4.0 proficiency because students do learn in a variety of ways and I feel that a play would help them get their artistic side out.
Reflection:
I chose this artifact because I am very artistic, hands-on learner. I understand that students need to move and I feel that this artifact has helped me grow because I am accessing a side of me that students will hopefully compare themselves to. As I have explained above this particular assignment has many different learning styles that students have.

Artifact Number 1
Artifact Title Bully Smack down Date 10/4/12
PSOE Proficiency
Addressed 1.0 The candidate uses
knowledge of curriculum, learner differences, and ongoing assessment data to
plan for student access to same essential content.
Artifact Description (provide context
about the artifact by describing what, when, where, why, how)
“Bully Smack down” is a role play game that
can teach students about the dangers of eating disorders, the media, and
themselves. It will highlight what the media does to photos and what is
expected of certain companies in the world. It will open their eyes to what
really happens in the media and what they can do for their own self-esteem.
This particular activity would be for 4th
and 5th graders. Personally I think they can grasp the concept and
understand what is going on in the lesson. For this lesson I would use a power
point to show anorexia and bulimia and the effects they can have on the body. I
would also hold a class discussion before showing the power point to understand
what they are thinking about the media. Do they think that those pictures are
not messed with? Do they put a standard on girls and boys to look and act like
the stars do. Do they think everything that happens in Hollywood is good? Who
are good role models? Who do you know that has stood up for eating disorders?
These questions will give me a perception of
what they know and what they think is important to body image.
Bully Smack down will be a game that is
played by the class. It will be comprised of groups, individuals and talks
about skinniness and “fat”. There will be a “bully” that picks on another
student first. Then the student will talk about how they felt when they were
bullied. The bullied student will get a turn to “bully” the other person back.
During this lesson I will talk about personal image and healthy choices. I will
also show a video of Tyra Banks talking about the model industry. I feel that
she truthfully tells what happens in the industry of models and their eating
habits.
Also, after bully smackdown I will give the
students a blank sheet of paper to trace their hand on. Once traced, I will ask
the class to pass around their papers and put one great thing about that person
on that sheet.

Proficiency
(explain how the artifact helps you meet the PSOE Proficiency)
This artifact addresses Proficiency 1.0
because it shows that I understand the different needs for the students. It
also shows that I understand the standard behind the activity that I am trying
to meet. Learner Differences are highlighted in this particular lesson.
Bodily/Kinesthetic: The student will get up
and move.
Interpersonal/Intrapersonal: Students will be
able to think about themselves and other in this activity. How they felt when
they got bullied verses what it felt like to be “in power”.
Visual: The power point will help these
learners organize their thoughts.
Reflection (reflect on why you
chose this artifact and how the artifact has contributed to your development as
a teacher generally and as a teacher with a Differentiated Instruction
perspective).
During students’ development at the older
elementary age they are experiencing changes in their thoughts and who they
hang out with. This activity will help them when they transition into middle
school and high school. It will help them sort out what is going on and what
they should do if they got into trouble with an eating disorder or if they feel
self-conscience. (who isn’t in middle and high school). This game would be
appropriate to teach with science because they also can learn how their body
functions properly. I believe students will react positively to this assignment.
In the end the student would have a page full of positive things for them to
look at. I know I still have mine from when I did it in middle school.
Activity Assignment 3
Professional Literature:
Summary
The Importance of
Movement and Physical Activity
Physical
Activity not only helps children reduce fat, build muscle, and help joint
movement, it also can be part of your everyday classroom lessons. The physical
activity is being taken from the classroom instruction to improve time for more
content areas. Using motion as a part of your lessons improves the students’
memory because they are already built for motion. By doing this you are helping
the students learn across the curriculum in all subjects. When the subjects are
related to one another it also helps build stronger schemas in the brain for
memory.
Reaction
This
article could not be true enough. All of this we have learned in class whether
it be this PED course or other education classes.
Summary/ Reaction
Winter Physical
Activity
Why
aren’t we more mobile in the winter? This article tells us of some fun
activities that we can do inside and outside to keep our bodies moving in a
good way to fight off that winter fat we put on. The days are shorter and
colder and busier for all families. Holiday gatherings and school functions
keep us inside and not moving. Try some of these fun activities and you will
find yourself feeling better and keeping warm during the cold winter months.
PE Central
This
website is full of activities and lessons you can do with your class to help
educate them about the importance of eating healthy and movement. I know I will
absolutely use this in the future for some fun indoor and outdoor activities
for my classes.
How it makes me a
better teacher…
This
information will help me be a better ECE teacher because this information will
help me plan my lessons around physical activity and movement because all kids
love to move more than they love to sit still.

2.

3.
I didn’t know that when your body temperature
rose to a high degree that our cells melted.
Reaction
Honestly
I read this article because the story seemed really interesting. As a coach you
always need to be safe when players are fully padded and running in hot
weather. I know as I watched my brother play football the coaches seemed it was
too dangerous to practice in the afternoon so they switched practice to early
morning. The coaches did this so they could get a full practice in going into
the first few games. It was either practice before school or in the gym which
wasn’t air conditioned at all.

This
document is the Application for Admission into the Price School of Education
Program here at Reinhardt. Any education major has to apply with this document
to be in the program and to take your major course. This application will tell

is most likely turned in when students are juniors or seniors. It helps
students organize who they are and where they want to work in the field of
sports.

to Glenda Bell, who works beside Dr. Curry’s office. This form is part of the
Application to Admission to the PSOE.
Document 7: Power
Point: Lesson Plan building
This
power point helps students know how to make lesson plans that are effective and
workable in the classroom. It goes step by step into how to build a lesson plan
and what is it in. This model for a lesson plan is the “work backwards” plan.
You find the ultimate goal of your students during that class time and then you

straight through a lesson plan.
Document 8: Rubric
