Activity Assignment 2
1.       What is the purpose of the GACE?
a.       There are two tests you take pertaining in being certified to be a teacher in Georgia. These tests are called GACE (Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators). The first test is the basic skills part. It can be compared to the SAT. If you get 1,000 or higher on your SATs then you can exempt this basic skills test. The second test(s) you would take is to certify you as a teacher. It test you on the content that you will teach as an educator.
2.       What is meant by “selected-response” (SR) and “constructed-response” (CR) items?
a.       Selected response items are the questions on the GACE that are multiple choice questions. Selected response is just a fancy word for multiple choice questions. The constructed response is the written part of the GACE. The test has a writing prompt and you are to answer on their answer document to the best of your ability. During the second GACE you will answer writing prompts that are aligned with the content of the specific area of which you are testing. The basic skills constructed response is just like the writing prompts you have had in the past on the SAT or writing tests.
3.       Identify the name of your test.
a.       GACE Basic Skills
b.      GACE Early Childhood 001
c.       GACE Early Childhood 002
4.       Identify the sub-areas of content for your test.
a.       Early Childhood 001: reading and social studies
b.      Early Childhood 002: science, math, health/pe, arts
5.       How many SR and CR items are there for each sub-area on your test?
a.       On the first test there are 30 questions each for the different content. Also there is one question pertaining to each content area.
b.      On the second test there are 20 questions each for science and math and then there are 10 other questions that pertain to HPE and the arts. Also there are one question each pertaining to science and math.
6.       And 7.      Identify the sub areas of content for the HPE test.
a.       Personal Health and Development (22)
b.      Disease and Health Risk Prevention (22)
c.       Family and Social Relationships (16)
d.      Motor Learning, Motor Development, and Movement Concepts (20)
e.      Health-Related Fitness (20)
f.        Sports and Lifetime Activities (20)
